What you can do with WhatsApp

Meta Cloud API

Messages are sent from the number whose Phone Number ID you add, through the Meta Cloud API.

Approved templates

Name an approved template and its Template Language, and that template is sent.

Free text option

Leave Template Name empty and the Message is sent as a text message instead.

Numbers tidied

Spaces, brackets and the plus sign are removed from Send To before sending.

No link previews

Link previews are turned off for text messages.

Token kept private

The saved Access Token is not shown again in the settings popup.
How it works

Set up WhatsApp in three steps

Enable WhatsApp

Go to Hash Form > Modules, switch on WhatsApp and click Save.

Add Meta credentials

In its cog, enter the Phone Number ID and a permanent Access Token.

Set the recipient

In the form’s Productivity settings, turn on Enable WhatsApp and fill in Send To and the template.

Why name a template?

Meta only allows free text within 24 hours of the recipient messaging you. For a form notification, name an approved template.

Which access token should I use?

A permanent System User token. A temporary one expires after 24 hours and messages stop without warning.

What format should the number be in?

International format, for example 447700900123. Spaces, brackets and a leading plus are removed for you.

Where is the Phone Number ID?

In the WhatsApp section of the Meta app dashboard. It is the numeric ID, not the phone number itself.
